It took a very long time to get into this painting. A very long time. I think I started this almost 2 years ago…
I think it takes me so long because these pieces have to go through an ugly phase.
But if I let things percolate long enough (2 years?? come on!), and push through the blah stage, I get back in the groove and usually can get it done.
And here it is finished and mounted. Yes, I did date this 2012 because that was when I took this photo and started the piece.
At this rate, I should have my next piece done by 2016.
Wow! Gorgeous thread painting. How do you manage to do such extensive thread painting and not tear, rip the background

Hi Lorna. That is a good question.. In this piece, you can see there was a lot of warping, but that gets eased out when you cut it to size. I use 2 pieces of interfacing on the back. In the second picture you can see the basting stitch (in green) that I stitch around the interfacing and top piece. Then when you start sewing, the pieces hold themselves together--and nothing rips!
ReplyDeleteAnother better way I do things now is that I fuse 2 pieces of interfacing on the back and I dont have to baste at all.. Thanks for asking..
It may have taken a while, but the end result is fabulous! I love the piece.
